Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Definitions and terms set forth in the current Terms and Conditions (Part I) are hereby incorporated into the current Privacy Policy (Part II).

Information We Collect
  • Account information — your name, email address, zip code, age range, and years playing golf when you register
  • Account identifier — a unique ID we assign to your account
  • Profile photo — if you choose to upload an avatar (optional)
  • Quiz responses — your answers to the bird personality quiz used to determine your Birdie Type
  • Course ratings and reviews — the ratings, selections, and comments you submit for golf courses
  • Usage data — pages visited and actions taken in the app, collected via PostHog analytics to help us improve the product. See the Analytics section below for how this works and your choices.
How We Use Your Information
  • To operate your account and display your profile
  • To publish your course ratings to help other women golfers
  • To help you find other women golfers in your area using your zip code
  • To send transactional emails (email verification, password reset) — we do not send marketing emails without your consent
  • To understand how the app is used so we can improve it. The service providers we use to do so are described below.
Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. This happens in two ways:

  • First-party product analytics. When you take actions in your account — for example, completing the quiz or submitting a course rating — we record those events on our own servers, tied to your account, as part of operating and improving the Service. This does not rely on cookies and is not used for advertising.
  • Browser analytics (opt-in). With your consent, we also use analytics cookies to measure general usage in your browser. These are set only if you opt in through our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time via Cookie Settings. See our Cookie Policy for details.

In both cases PostHog processes this information on our behalf as a service provider, and we do not sell it.

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only as described below:

  • Service providers who help us operate the platform and may only use your data to provide those services:
    • PostHog — product analytics (usage data only, no payment info); see the Analytics section above
    • Resend — transactional email delivery (your email address only)
    • Mailchimp — email and CRM for newsletters and community updates (your name and email), used only where you have opted in; you can unsubscribe at any time
    • Our hosting and infrastructure providers
  • Aggregated & de-identified data — We may share, sell, or license information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for research, insights, and commercial partnerships with golf courses, brands, and industry organizations. The data will always be aggregated and de-identified and will never use individual personal information.
  • Legal — when required by law or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
Your Rights

You can delete your account and personal data at any time directly in the app (Profile → Delete my account), or by emailing us at support@betweenusbirdies.com. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information; your course reviews are kept but anonymized so they no longer identify you (see Data Retention below).

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Course ratings you submit are retained to serve the community and may remain visible in anonymised or aggregated form after account deletion.

Security

Passwords are stored using bcrypt hashing. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We take reasonable precautions to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security.

Age Requirement

Between Us Birdies is intended for adults aged 18 and older. The service is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the date at the top of this page when we do.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

This section applies to California residents and supplements the Privacy Policy above. It describes the categories of personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, and the rights California law gives you over your information.

Categories of Personal Information We Collect

In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined under the CCPA:

  • Identifiers — name, email address, zip code, account identifier
  • Characteristics of protected classifications — age range
  • Commercial information — course ratings, reviews, and quiz responses you submit
  • Internet or other electronic network activity — usage data collected via PostHog analytics (pages visited, actions taken in the app)
  • Inferences — your Birdie Type, derived from your quiz responses

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined under the CPRA (such as precise geolocation, government IDs, or health information).

How We Disclose Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We disclose personal information for business purposes as follows:

  • To our service providers (PostHog, Resend, Mailchimp, and our hosting/infrastructure providers) as described in the Information Sharing section above, under contracts that restrict their use of your information to providing services to us.
  • As aggregated or de-identified information, which may be shared, sold, or licensed to golf courses, brands, and industry organizations for research, insights, and commercial partnerships. This data will always be aggregated and de-identified and will never use your individual personal information. To the extent this constitutes a "sale" or "share" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to opt out as described below.
  • When required by law or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA/CPRA:

  • Right to Know — you can request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, and the categories of third parties with whom we have disclosed it.
  • Right to Delete — you can request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions (for example, information we need to retain for legal compliance).
  • Right to Correct — you can request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing — you can opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information, including the aggregated/de-identified data practice described above.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — to the extent we process sensitive personal information, you can direct us to limit its use. As noted above, we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not deny you goods or services, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of service because you exercised any of these rights.
How to Exercise Your Rights

You can exercise your Right to Know, Delete, or Correct by emailing us at support@betweenusbirdies.com or by deleting your account directly in the app (Profile → Delete my account). We will verify your request using the information associated with your account before responding, and will respond within the timeframe required by law.

To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, email us at support@betweenusbirdies.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information."

You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We may require proof of the agent's authorization and may still require you to verify your own identity directly with us.

Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active, and as described in the Data Retention section above. We retain aggregated and de-identified data indefinitely, as it is no longer personal information.

Changes to This Section

We may update this California Privacy Rights section from time to time as our practices or applicable law change. We will update the "Last updated" date on the Privacy Policy when we do.
